South Coldwater Trail Report

June 26, 2009 on 8:58 am | In Mountain Biking | 2 Comments

CIMG5796Eight members of the Growlers Gulch Trail Crew hit the lower portion of South Coldwater Trail 230A on Saturday, June 27th. The group included Brian Mahon, Thomas Mueller, Mike Alexander, Jeff Lipton, Jeff Muldoon, Ryan McMaster, J. LeMonds and D. LeMonds.

Brian had already done some brushing on the lower portion so we were able to move pretty quickly over the 3.5 mile section to Tractor Junction at the back end of the lake. Most of the work involved brushing, construction of waterbars, and widening and smoothing out some rough spots (I was against this).

The portion we worked on is in excellent shape. Thomas even constructed an over.

DSC00288A group from the Washington Trails Association was working on the very dicey upper section. I’m anxious to get up there and see what kind of shape that is in.

We are planning at least one trip to St. Helens Lake this summer, so be sure to let me know if you are interested.

Thanks again to those who volunteered. The next work party is scheduled for Ape Canyon on July 26th. I am keeping an eye on some current clean-up work at Ape Canyon. If things are sterling over there, we will probably shift our crew to a different location.

I will keep you posted.

  1. hhmmm, miss the corner and go for a swim?!
Thanks for your work up there! Ape Canyon awaits your tender touch with loppers, weed eaters, and shovels!

  2. You wouldn’t be swimming right away. You’d fall for a thousand feet or so first.
