Loney Rails to First Pro Win

Yeah, baby!

Yeah, baby!

All that practice he got staying in front of the hard-charging Growlers Gulch Racing crew at Mountain Bike Oregon paid off for Eric Loney.

Loney picked up his first win as a professional downhiller as he rocketed to victory in 4:34 at part one of the Willamette Pass Downhill Mountain Biking Series on July 25th and 26th.

Jarrod Hobbs took second with a 4:37, edging Charlie Sponsel, who ran a 4:38. Loney defeated a Cannondale factory racer by a full six seconds.

Eric is sponsored by Project 529. He is currently ranked 39th by USA Cycling among all professional DHers in the U.S.

This was the easy part. Now let’s see if he can defend his Growlers Gulch TT title in September.

  2. Eric – Tell Jarrod and Charlie that they are welcome to attend the GGTT. The Cannondale factory guy didn’t have a fast enough qualifying time.

  5. That is why those “downhillers” from Ca could not keep up with you on Hardesty……

Congratulations! You deserve it for all of the hard work you have put in riding and building trail.

  8. I just got around to catching up on the latest biking news and saw this article…congrats to Eric. He’s an amazing rider…unfortunately for me and more serious competitors there are several with excessive ability levels riding in our group.
    Keep winning Eric!
