Growlers, Stella Systems Closed

July 21, 2009 on 2:15 pm | In Mountain Biking | 4 Comments

We are locked out.

On Tuesday, both Weyerhaeuser and Longview Timberlands (Longview Fibre) announced that their land in Washington and OregonĀ is closed due to extreme fire danger. This means that everything we ride at low elevation is off-limits.

Even if you don’t see a sign, please heed this message. We’ve developed a pretty good relationship with Weyerhaeuser security because they know we keep an eye out forĀ dumping and general stupidity. That relationship will take a hit if they see mountain bikers breaking the rules.

BTW – In the past, the timber companies have been very slow to re-open. My guess is that August is gone and that it will be well into September before we get back in. As soon as something changes, I will let you know.

In the meantime, I invite you to post ride possibilities in the comment section so that people have some options.

  1. All is not lost! There is Whistler, Bend, Hood River, Post canyon, Tillamook State forest, Capitol State forest, all of the national forest up and down the cascades,Mckenzie river,Lewis river, souixom,Green river to ride. I am told there is a whole big world outside of Longview. Its summertime go see some of it (and take your bike).

  2. The GGG is shifting its efforts towards either Larch Mountain, Gnat Creek, or LL Stub Stewart Park in Portland. I’m waiting for feedback to make the decision where to go on Saturday. Let me know your thoughts!

  3. Stub stewart hardy has anything yet. Browns camp /storey burn would be a better choice.

  4. Brad – Just a wild guess on my part, but I’m going to assume that you’re not on the conflict resolution team at work.
