Two big events remain on the ticket for Growlers Gulch Racing’s 2009 ride circuit. Sign up begins today. Obviously, all of this is contingent on the woods re-opening prior to these events.

Neither is a test of endurance. They are ride-hard-and-hurl competitions. No clock will be set but we will keep score.

The Post-Ride Pub at 465 will be open and ready to do businessĀ on both of these dates. These are unique events in the world of mountain biking. Do not miss them or we will make you regret it.

See who’s signed up at the bottom of this post. If you sign up right now you can be one of the early favorites.

Growlers Gulch Climbing Championship: Saturday, September 12th - So you think you’re a climber.

The plan is to have five short interval climbs that will put a premium on legs, lungs, and bike-handling skills. The first four will not be timed. Riders gain points by not putting a foot down. For the final climb, we will not only measure how much of the hill you rode but also time those who clean it so that ties can be broken.

Riders will be randomly seeded so that everyone has equal time between runs. This is a first-ever event so cut us some slack if we don’t have everything figured out.

Start time is 10 a.m. This is the 4th wheel in the quest for the coveted Growlers Gulch Fist of Five.

Growlers Gulch Time Trial: Sunday, September 20th – Last year’s TT was such an overwhelming success that we had to do it again. The route has not been finalized but we are leaning toward either Piece and Pound or Cousin Eddie.

2008 GGTT champion and pro DHer Eric Loney has vowed to return to defend his title. He will be challenged by national 40+ Cat 1 DH champion Darrell Jamieson, Cat 1 19-29 stud Al Hansen, Cat 1 40+ Fluidride Cup leader Jason Moon, and others.

Seeding will be done according to 2008 results. Riders will have the opportunity to make two runs.

This is the 5th and final wheel of the season. Start time is 10 a.m.

  8. I’m surprised that you let Dave slide, Mel. It was very apparent that his inclusion of “2nd place” on the four-wheel decal was the equivalent of saying, “Maybe next year, losers.” How quickly his attitude has changed since last year. This is why he has a reputation for volatility.
