August 25, 2009 on 3:30 pm | In Mountain Biking | No CommentsJason Moon of Boone Dog Bikes and Growlers Gulch Racing picked up his third DH win of the season in Cat 1 40-49 at the fifth leg of the 2009 Fluidride Cup Series at Port Angeles on August 22nd-23rd.
Moon ran a 3:10 and continues to hold a slim lead in the seasons standings over nemesis Brad Watt, who was second with a 3:12. The two will face off for the ’09 title at Mount Hood on September 26th-27th.
Other local entrants in Cat 1 40-49 included Darrell Jamieson, who was third with a time of 3:16, and Silent Bob Juntunen, who was 8th with a 3:58.
Eric Loney started well in the pro classification, racking up a 2:58 in the qualifier, the fifth fastest time of the day. “In my final, I somehow managed to go two seconds slower and ran a 3:00,” Loney said. “The worst part is that I thought it was a faster run than my qualifier. I was really disappointed when I saw my time.”
Loney finished 9th. Australian Bryn Atkinson (Intense/Kenda) was the winner with a scorching 2:48. Lars Sternberg (Fox Racing) was second with a 2:50.
Al Hansen finished 4th in the hotly-contested Cat 1 19-29 division with a time of 3:09, just two seconds behind the winner.
In Cat 2 19-29, Kevin Knorr was 20th with a run of 3:27. Nick Hansen was 5th in Cat 2 30-39 with a time of 3:09. Casey Cox flatted not far from the gate but rode it out and finished with a 4:45, which was good for 15th.
Chase Jamieson has an injured wrist and did not race.
Good luck to everyone at the season finale at Hood.
