The Annual Labor Day Sunday Golden Spike Shuttle and Low Country Boil is a GO for 2016!
The Spike is a primitive cross-country trail that connects the Harmony trail system in Longview with the Growlers Gulch system in Castle Rock. It’s about a 20-mile ride with 2,500 feet of climbing, and requires a reliable bike, better than average fitness, and good bike handling skills. It’s not a ride for beginners! Having said that, it’s all singlespeed-able.
This year’s Spike features a new reroute of section 5, and an amazing panoramic view from Mt. Rainier to Mt. Hood at the top! (Thanks to Ken, Dave Haas, Bob Horness, Christy Mueller, Vince DeLuchio and Bob Stanton for making the reroute possible)
The ride leaves from Harmony Drive at 10:00 a.m. Let me know if you’re bringing a rig that can carry more than two other bikes and/or riders, and I may ask you to show up at the gate at Growlers at 09:15 to drop your rigs off for the shuttle.
Also new this year is the requirement for each rider to have a $50 non-motorized Weyco permit. It’s good until next summer and worth it if you want to enjoy the 40 miles of trail that the Harmony system has to offer. Get yours here: www.wyrecreationnw.com
The party afterwards will again be in my backyard. Contact Joel at firstname.lastname@example.org for directions. Food should be served around 3 pm. Showers are available.
Please RSVP ASAP to Joel at the email address above about the ride, the food, and the beer so we know how much to buy for the party. Friends and family that aren’t riding are more than welcome to come for the afterparty. No-shows: please understand that you’ll still be on the hook for for the food/beer $ if you sign up.
