Loney Out, GG Schedule Changed

Have you ever found yourself gasping for breath after walking up a flight of stairs? That’s where I am right now – fully porked out after more than a month of vacation combined with no riding. Let’s hope things are about to change.

Growlers Gulch Trail System: I’ve called Weyerhaeuser several times to see if they have any clue about when the woods might be re-opened. Nada.

My guess (fingers crossed) is that after all the Labor Day rain, we’ll have access some time next week. I won’t be able to ride very fast, but damn it will feel good to get back on a bike and also to see you guys.

Growlers Events: Right now, the Time Trial is still scheduled for Sunday, September 20th. However, we are postponing the Climbing Championship, which was previously slated for Saturday, September 12th. Mel put it this way: “I want to be able to climb the Powerline Hill before we start talking about the Climbing Championships.”

No date has been set. I’m looking at early October.

Loney Out for the Season: Eric Loney of Project 529 and Growlers Gulch Racing went down with a severe leg injury last week. While attempting to hit a jump on his motorcycle, he suffered a “total compression fracture” at the bottom of his tibia. Surgery is scheduled for Tuesday. No word yet on when he might be able to get back on a bike.

Eric is ranked 4th among pro DHers in Washington and 52nd nationally.

Please send condolences to el854@hotmail.com

TT: I know what you’re thinking – With Loney out of the way, you are now a favorite for the TT title. Keep dreaming.

  1. Maybe the powerline hill could be the climbing championship.
Get well brother Eric. Follow your doc’s orders and do not do what I do.

  2. Hey everybody! Just want to say hi and let you
guys know I’m gonna be fine. This was a freak
accident, I didn’t even crash! The plan now is
to get healthy and strong over the winter
and come back charging next year. I’ll be at
the TT cheering everybody on! See ya there!
