TT Countdown Is On
September 14, 2009 on 10:09 pm | In Mountain Biking | 2 CommentsThis year’s Growlers Gulch Time Trial promises to be a stellar event. We will have spectators, air horns, cowbells, and some damn good riders. You can still sign up. Just let me know if you are coming.
Please note that the Post-Ride Pub at 465 will be open after this event.
If you’re tired of those inconvenient doctor’s visits and expensive tests, we’ve got a special for you. On Sunday, in just 12 minutes or less, you can find out if you have an aneurysm! And best of all, it won’t cost you a thing!
Injured Dude to Provide Assistance – 2008 GGTT champion Eric Loney, who is sidelined with a severe leg injury, will assist with timing and provide advice to racers. Stuff like, “Pedal your ass off, don’t crash, and you’ll be fine.”
Eric recently learned from his orthopedic surgeon that the break is worse than originally thought. A broken piece of tibia got pushed up 4 millimeters, and that did bad things to his ankle joint. The surgeon will need to adjust the piece of the tibia, use sythentic bone graft material to fill some other spots, and use plates and screws to hold things together. His surgery is scheduled for Wednesday. Eric will be in a cast for three months. But he will be at the TT!
Props – Big thanks to Paul and Ryan for doing the initial clean-up on Cousin Eddie on Saturday. Even bigger kudos toSam Loney and Tonya Breedlove for grooming the course to unreal standards on Sunday. Thanks also to Bob Stanton for sending his custom timing software to Paul and Ryan for use at Sunday’s event.

Practice Runs – The cheaters were out on Saturday and Sunday, studying the lines and doing practices runs. Check the times below. See, you could be a winner:
- Al Hansen: 7:07
- Darrell Jamieson: 7:27
- Dave LeMonds: 8:43
- Chase Jamieson: 9:30
- Sam Loney: 10:30
Ride Etiquette – When Emily Post was really into mountain biking, she had very specific rules for time trials.
First, if you are gaining on someone, yell so that they can move. Second, if you are being gained on, get yourself and your bike completely off the trail as quickly as possible.
If you have been caught, this means that the person catching you has made up two minutes on you. This also means that you are in no danger of finishing anywhere near the top of the leaderboard, so please do the right thing by bailing.

FYI…one of the other “cheaters” was the author of this article. I rode off his back wheel until he over powered his bike and it surged sideways off the trail. His time was the same as mine. He was sandbagging so watch out for Jeep.
Thanks to all the worker bees for all their efforts. Eddy is perfect.
