Climbing Championships on for Oct. 17th
September 28, 2009 on 11:21 pm | In Mountain Biking | 1 CommentThe first-ever Growlers Gulch Climbing Championships will be held Saturday, October 17th. It’s not too late to sign up. If you check the list below, you’ll quickly see that it’s the usual group of pretenders. The title is yours for the taking. All you have to do is pedal up a couple of gentle rises. We’ll probably have them paved by the time you get here. How hard can it be?
I will post the locations and order of the climbs – there will either be four or five - in the next couple of days. If we get big rain, we will adjust on the fly.
Where to meet: Be at the intersection by 9:45. You can get there by going in through the Growlers gate, climbing the power line hill, and riding down about a third of a mile to the first major intersection. We will round people up there. Don’t be late because it might not be easy to find us. We’ll try to get the first climb going by 10:00 a.m.
Plan on being out there a while: If 20+ people show up, it’s going to take a little while. We’ll try to move as quickly as possible, but it’s going to take time just to have the entire group ride from one climb to the next.
How it works: No times will be recorded so there is no reason to be intimidated. This is an all-or-none situation. Ride the designated hill the first time and you get one point. If you don’t make it, you can try a second time; if you make it, you get half a point. We have a special climb to finish things off and break ties.
Festivities: The Post-Ride Pub at 465 will be open after the event. Special recognition to four- and five-wheelers at that time. Also, taquitos and nacho bar available for $3.
