Kevin Knorr Opens Northwest Bike Tech
April 16, 2008 on 6:30 am | In Mountain Biking | 1 CommentKevin Knorr, formerly the assistant manager at Byman’s Bikes in Longview, opened a bike repair shop in downtown Longview in early April. Northwest Bike Tech is located at 1331 14th Avenue, in the suite occupied by Jason Moon of Boone Dog Bikes.
“Jason will still be running Boone Dog Bikes and making sure that everyone gets the parts they need,” said Knorr, 21, who worked at Byman’s for the past four years. “However, I’ll be taking over the majority of the repair work for him. I’ll provide complete service on all types of bikes, but I’ll also cater to the performance side of the mountain biking industry.”Hours will be the same for both shops – 11 to 6, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and from noon to 6 on Saturday and Sunday. “You can also get service after hours if you give me a call at 360.751.1299. A 2005 graduate of R. A. Long High School, Knorr attended the United Bicycle Institute (UBI) where he received shop operator, professional mechanic, suspension tech and UBI and DT Swiss wheel-building certifications.
Knorr said his focus will be on helping riders and their bikes perform well together. “Anyone who has questions about which components will work best for them is welcome to call or stop by for a conversation.” In addition to basic repair and maintenance services, he will offer custom wheel-building and suspension set-up and tuning.“ Riders need their bikes to react properly and efficiently to the terrain,” Knorr said. “We’ll start with basic adjustments in the shop, and then I’ll be available to go out with the rider and fine-tune things on trail.”
Knorr has experience in CAD/CAM engineering, as well as welding and fabrication. “I’m interested in producing prototypes, so if there is a product that someone would like to see on the market, they should let me know. I’ll do my best to see the idea become a reality.” Knorr started as a BMX-er and continues to ride BMX today. He purchased his first mountain bike in 2005 and began racing in the Ski Bowl series at Mount Hood in 2007. He placed 5th in the men’s 19-29 sport division last year. He rides locally at Stella, Growlers Gulch and Mount Brynion.
