Six New Trail Lines Under Construction at Growlers

November 12, 2009 on 6:06 pm | In Mountain Biking | No Comments

The trail gnomes have been busy.

In anticipation of a big turnout for our mega-work party on Saturday, November 21, we have been flagging as much new stuff as possible. Four of the lines are in the Secret Garden area; one is the down off of Creation and headed toward Double Down; and the other is a connector line that will eliminate the gravel between Double Down and Canoe.

When finished, these lines will add 3+ miles to the system. Even better, all of them either eliminate gravel or expand existing trail areas. Not to mention the fact that we will guarantee what you’ve come to expect – challenging climbs; sweet descents; off-camber corners; fake berms; and creative “features.” The downside is that this adds miles to the annual Ride e’m All.

On the 21st, we will probably focus on the climbing line out of the Secret Garden and the down off of Creation. Anything else will be a bonus. See who’s signed up at http://writeteknorthwest.com/archives/2253/board-of-directors-sets-date-for-mega-work-party-at-growlers. We have 42 right now and hope to get 45+.

More details TK but here are a few essentials:

  • Bring fluid to carry in your pack. Growlers Gulch Racing will supply sandwiches and chips
  • Work starts at 9 a.m. sharp. Lunch at the top of the Lament at noon. Back at it until 3 p.m.
  • A lot of people will probably drive in. If you want guidance, be at 4-Corners in Castle Rock at 8:45 a.m. We will have people there to assist you. I will also have Eric Loney stationed at the top of the Lament to provide directions.
  • If you want to ride in, be at 465 at 8:45 ready to roll. I will have one of the dunderheads take care of you.
  • If you are driving in, bring tools – rakes, shovels, nippers. If you are riding in, bring a handsaw or nippers.
  • The 21st is the last day of extended buck season. Don’t wear brown.
  • I’ll put out a message that explains where you will be working. We’ll try to make it as simple as possible for you to get to the work areas. You’ll have a group leader. However, since this will be someone from our core group, don’t expect a lot of “leadership” or intelligence.
  • The first order of business will be to brush out the lines. Once this is done – hopefully before lunch – we will go back and take care of shovel work, switchbacks, berms, rollers, etc.
  • You’re a biker. If it looks the weather will be inclement, come prepared.
  • You’ll feel better if you bring a change of clothes for after.

As per a special request from Kevin Knorr, we ill schedule a Sunday work party sometime during the next couple of months. That will give everyone who didn’t make the first one a chance to make the second.
