Reminisces – Hal Williams, ‘55
November 11, 2009 on 1:44 pm | In Coach Floyd LeBaron Tribute | No CommentsFloyd LeBaron taught and coached at Concrete High School from 1948 until 1953. During these years he assisted in football and was head coach in boys’ basketball and baseball where he compiled winning records in both sports.
During his last three seasons at CHS he had 32 wins, 19 losses in basketball and 22 wins, 11 losses in baseball. His last basketball season netted him 15 wins and 2 losses.
Concrete High School had good athletes, but they were small, as the tallest basketballer stood 6’1’’. As a result of size, his teams had to play good fundamental basketball to be competitive, and Coach LeBaron was an expert in teaching fundamentals. He instilled pride, confidence, and competiveness. As a result of Coach’s tutelage, his teams won with teamwork and a desire to excel.
Not only did he teach fundamentals, but he taught the value of fair play and a strong work ethic, which carried over into adult life for many of his players. He taught us how to be humble winners and gracious losers.
In 1990, Coach LeBaron, along with other outstanding coaches and the top 15 players from 1940-1990 were recognized for their contributions to Concrete High School boys’ basketball at a special ceremony.
All who were fortunate to know Coach LeBaron, and have his influence in their lives, benefited greatly. What a wonderful career, and what a life!
