Jim LeMonds is celebrating his 60th birthday with the 60 @ Sixty ride. He taught English in the Longview School District for 30 years and has been mountain biking since 1996. LeMonds is one of only four riders to have completed the Boundary Trail Epic from Mount Adams to Mount St. Helens. He placed second at the 2009 Growlers Gulch Climbing Championships. LeMonds lives in Castle Rock, Washington.
Brian Mahon is a family practice PA for Kaiser in Longview, Washington. In addition to completing the 2006 Boundary Trail Epic, and the 2005 40 Miles in the Gifford Pinchot ride, Mahon climbed eight peaks – St. Helens, Hood, Rainier, Adams, North Sister, Middle Sister, South Sister, and Washington – in six days as part of his 2002 Peak Week Celebration of Life. He has also climbed Hood, St. Helens, and Adams in 36 total hours. Mahon, 53, lives in Castle Rock.
John Platt was a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Cycling Team. He has climbed more than 150 peaks that measure 10,000 feet or more. John participated in the 2006 Boundary Trail Epic and rates the 2002 Peak Week Celebration of Life with Brian as one of his most significant accomplishments. Platt currently works as a technical writer for Trek and lives in Boise, Idaho. He is 54.
Dave LeMonds is a physicians’ liason at Peace Health Medical Center in Longview, Washington. He completed the 2006 Boundary Trail Epic, was fourth at the 2008 Growlers Gulch 5,000, and earned Fist of Five status from Growlers Gulch Racing on the 2009 ride circuit. LeMonds is 55. He lives in Kelso, Washington.
Paul Norris is the COO at LifePort Interiors in Woodland, Washington. He placed third at the 2007 Growlers Gulch 5,000, earned Fist of Five recognition on the Growlers Gulch ride circuit in 2009, and participated in the 2010 24 Hours of Old Pueblo. At 46, Norris is the adolescent in the group. He lives in Kalama, Washington.
Mike Van Hoose will head up the studdish support crew. Mike won the ’09 Growlers Gulch 5K and is an experienced mountain, cyclo-cross, and road biker. He will be assisted by Jeff Muldoon, Thomas Mueller, Jack Berry, Andy Crump, and Ryan McMaster. The support crew will split the ride routes and be available to handle emergency wrenching. They will also carry extra equipment – tire, derailleur, etc. – for the birthday boy. Dara Muldoon and PNW biking legend Vaughn Martin will handle the driving.
