Mel Norris Suffers Injury, Fans Concerned
February 22, 2010 on 1:55 pm | In Mountain Biking | 6 CommentsI have received several reports about the knee injury Melanie Norris suffered on Sunday.
She apparently went over the bars and landed on rocks. The result was five stitches in the emergency room at Legacy Salmon Creek, followed by a Vicodin and a medicinal IPA.
What’s all the fuss about? This is the same woman who rode 21 miles at the ‘09 Growlers Gulch 5,000 with a broken shoulder.
Do you really think a scrape on her knee is going to slow Mel down? I don’t call her The Hammer for nothing. This is simply one element of her training regimen for this year’s 5K.
Reports say that she sustained this injury while riding the Golden Spike on the Stella side on Sunday. I will remind all of you that this is the type of thing that can happen when you leave the safe confines of Growlers.
The real downside is that she bled on her snazzy, new birthday shorts.

But she kept riding, because Mel is a hockey player!

I hope you’re on the mend. Two questions: was it an unsafe trail and why did you go to Legacy Salmon Creek?

I’m ok. I think the shorts will be fine. The trail was perfectly safe, me riding without my shinguards was the issue oh yeah and there’s the ongoing problem I have with hitting trees.
BTW Growlers broke me, The Spike only scratched me a little…The Spike is definitely a must ride, a lot of hard work was put in over there and it really shows.
