Brigman, Edwards Collect Hardware

Lance Brigman of Growlers Gulch Racing continued his strong 2010 showing by placing second and first at the Banana Belt 1 and Banana Belt 2 road races on February 27th and March 6th.

Brigman lost by a bike-length in 60+ Masters at Banana Belt 1. He covered the 44-mile route with an average speed of 24 miles per hour.

“There were about 50 of us in the pelaton,” Brigman said. “We pretty much stayed together until the last hills two miles before the finish.” Brigman finished in the top ten among those 50 and over.

At Banana Belt 2 at Hagg Lake, Brigman took first, but once again had to rely on mountain biking skills just to survive.

“Everything went well until the last 200 yards,” he said. “I was in the first eight at the front in a group of 50 when I heard the noise of bicycles crunching. Then it felt like a Force 10 hurricane was shaking my rear wheel. Five people went down but I stayed up. After the race, I found that I had a bent rear derailleur and a tire track on my leg.”

Todd Edwards, who finished seventh at the ’09 GG5K, placed third in Cat 3 at the Red to Red race in Echo, Oregon. The event took place on March 6th and is one leg of the Oregon River City 2010 XC Classic Mountain Biker Series.

Edwards was in the top five coming out of the gate when disaster struck. “Some dude wiped me out in the draft. After that, I had to put the hammer down and ended up passing at least 50 riders. I did the entire race with bent handle bars.”

The route covered 21 miles and was approximately 70 percent single-track and 30 percent double-track.

Sounds like Todd and Lance are ready for this year’s 5K.
