June 12th Work Parties, New Lines Coming Soon
June 9, 2010 on 12:42 pm | In Mountain Biking | No CommentsJune 12th Work Parties will be buffing things out to prepare for the Tour de Gulch the following weekend. Here’s the plan. Be sure to check where your group is meeting at what tools you need to bring. Start time is 9:00 a.m. Don’t be late.
• Rob and Laurie Larsen: Total walk-throughs of Mr. T, Eddie, and Terminator.
• Jeff and Dara Muldoon, Susan Martin, and Wynne Lobel. Massage new line added to Upper Jekyll. Walk-throughs of Miracle Mile, ABC, and JFK. Meet at the T (where Walk in the Park and the Big Easy intersect). Jeff and Dara have all the tools for their crew.
• Paul and Mel Norris, Marcus Faber, Andy Crump, and Lance Brigman. Deal with creek crossing on PMS, trim Humpity, and work on Bitter Bitch. Meet at top of Ridge Trail with shovels, rakes and digging tools.
• Randy Toney, Geo and Lloyd Smith, and Aaron Dennis. Create signature log-over created on JLS, as well as complete trim/pick-up of that trail. Walk-throughs of Canoe, Double Down, and Ace of Spades Drive or ride in and meet at the blue gate at 9. Randy is bringing his chainsaw and loppers. He needs his crew to bring a shovel, rake or machete.
• Ryan McMaster, Shane and Juntu Oberg, John Kowalski, Jess Jacobsen, and Casey Cox Dirt work to widen the line near the bottom of Rush and to berm the corners on the first two drops. Meet at the top of the Ridge Trail with shovels, rakes and handsaws.
• Jack Berry, Mike Brady, and Aaron Carter. Trim out Jeep Trail and Creek Trail. Then hit Piece, Pound and Cooley’s. Meet at gate at the end of Growlers Gulch Road. Bring nippers, handsaw and/or machete.
News Lines are in the Planning Stages
We have two new lines on the agenda. Vortex will follow the creek from the Cooley’s Loop area to the west and come out under Double Down. Most of this is flagged. We think we can knock most of it out in a single day if we can get a 20-person crew. This line will give you a third option for descending from the top of the system (currently, the choices are Jekyll or the Upper KMA). The upper part of Vortex will be fast. The section along the creek will be very scenic.
An unnamed line is set to start across the road from the top of Upper Jekyll and slab the hill on the right side of the 313 gravel climb. This will take you to the very top of the system on single-track. We are doing our best to make this rideable both up and down.
