Highlander Cycling Sponsors Longview Criterium

Highlander Cycling, in partnership with the City of Longview and local businesses, will present The First Annual Longview Grand Prix Criterium on August 14 in the Civic Center Round. We have been working with Longview City Officials and The Oregon Bicycle Racing Association to obtain the correct permits, insurance and everything else we may need to get this race on the cycling map. And now that we have the GREEN light, we are moving full speed ahead to promote the race to cyclists, businesses and spectators. I thought an e-mail to my own personal e-mail list would be a great place to start!

I am reaching out to you to see if you, or someone you know, would like to participate. We need participants in many areas including:

Racers! There are many categories for both men and women, as well as Pro races. Additionally, there is a FREE kid’s race and a fixie race.

Sponsors! There are several levels of sponsorship – each guaranteed to get a business in front of hundreds of people and associated with a FUN event. During each race, Preems (Premiums) are given to race leaders. Preems are coupons or a small merchandise gift that is awarded by the announcer along with the name of the business.

Volunteers! We need around 25 volunteers to manage setting up, registration, and all kinds of other fun management activity before, during and after the races. We will hold our first volunteer meeting at Highlander Cycling on July 26 @ 7:00 p.m. Information about volunteer opportunities will be posted on our website later this week.

Spectators! Cyclists need cheering on! If you don’t race, aren’t in business and not inclined to volunteer – come on out and enjoy a day of professional bicycle racing! And if you are not going to be in town – let your friends and neighbors know about it. The location of the races – the Civic Center Round-a-bout – makes it a GREAT place for spectators to get an up front view of the entire race. It will be a festive environment with food and service vendors participating.

We are expecting 250 to 300 racing cyclists and an additional 300 companions and spectators. This is sure to be a fast paced and exciting event!
