Eric and Sam Loney of Project 529 and Growlers Gulch Racing finished the 2010 Northwest Cup Series on a high note with Eric placing third in the pro division and Sam winning the women’s open category.

The event, which was the fourth is the series, was held at Port Angeles, Washington, on July 24th and 25th.

Eric’s run of 2:33.85 was behind only winner Lars Sternberg of Transition Racing (2:30.61) and Dean Tennant of Dunbar Cycles (2:31.97). Even more impressive, Eric finished fourth among pro riders in the season standings.

Sam capped her first year of racing by obliterating the field in the women’s open division. She covered the course in 3:52.86, which was 26 seconds faster than her nearest competitor. Sam finished 2010 as the number one woman in her division.

Sam noted that the pro course was raked and scary-fast but the beginner’s course received no attention.

“It was hard to get traction on the corners,” she said. “Rocks galore and skatey little pebbles everywhere. Thank God for body armor because I couldn’t stay off the ground.”

The Loneys are looking forward to their trip to Brazil, where Eric will compete in the World Masters’ Championships in September.
