McMaster Takes First Short-Track Win

Ryan McMaster of Bike Tires Direct and Growlers Gulch Racing won the Cat 2 Westside Short Track XC Race on July 31st. The event was held at Westside High School in Beaverton, Oregon. It was Ryan’s first short track victory but we are confident that it won’t be his last.

McMaster smoked the field in the 12-mile race, finishing more than a minute ahead of the runner-up and lapping several riders along the way.

While most of the other participants opted for cyclo-cross bikes, McMaster was on his less-than-petite Heckler.

“It was pretty much a hammerfest the whole time,” he said. “I started with a balls-out sprint and kept it up until I ran out of gears. I drafted behind the number-one guy until he blew a turn. I passed him, put the hammer down, and left a huge gap for the rest of the race.”

Ryan’s average heart rate was 185, but he was in the 195-205 zone for parts of the race.
