Yep, I’m a Homer
August 9, 2010 on 4:26 pm | In Mountain Biking | 7 CommentsA funny thing happened after I broke my Fisher 292 frame. Well, actually several funny things.
I learned from Vancouver Cyclery that delivery of a replacement frame would take weeks – maybe months. I have a trip to Bend planned later this month, so I had to resort to emergency measures.
After going through the options with Ryan, Thomas, and Jeff, I decided to contact Turner about a Sultan they had on closeout on their website. It was just under $2,000 because of a paint blemish. Naturally, by the time I got in touch, all the screen said was “Product Not Available.”
Jeff told me that there was a huge waiting list for Sultan frames and that I was probably SOL. I went ahead and sent an email to their Help staff to confirm that the bike had been sold. I mentioned that I had ridden Paul’s Sultan on the 60 ride, that it had performed beautifully, and that we had raised $10,000 for charity.
My new best friend LJ responded within minutes. He said that he liked the story, that he was willing to knock $400 off the price of a new Sultan frame, that he would bump me to the top of the list, and that the bike would be shipped that afternoon!
I checked my bike fund and contacted my advisors to see how much I might be able to get for the replacement frame. Sher wasn’t home, so I got my credit card and made the purchase. Sure enough, LJ – who I later learned is Turner’s International Sales Manager – shipped the frame that same day. It has arrived and Jeff is working on the build.
To quote Muldoon: That is one bad mamba jamba. I would say it looks basically perfect. Thomas and I checked it over pretty close and she looks tight.”
Jeff says the Sultan is perfect for my gentle ride style. He has worked on my fork and also talked me into upgrading to Avid Elixirs.
Can’t wait to take that baby for a test ride!

Jeep, You know I have the Flux and that it is hard to decide whether to ride SS, fixed, or Fluxed. That’s saying that your Sultan will be hard to put away at the end of the day.

Still working out the details, but I will almost certainly sell it if/when it comes through.

I might be interested in it to ride at Hood. Let me know what you thinking of price wise.
