Knorr Injured, Surgery Scheduled

September 8, 2010 on 12:47 pm | In Mountain Biking | 7 Comments

Kevin Knorr of Growlers Gulch Racing went down in a wreck at Brynion on Thursday. He clipped his bar-end on a tree during a DH run, and his rotor did big damage to his calf.

The missing chunk of flesh was so large that the ER staff was unable to sew it together. Kevin is scheduled for surgery and a graft this week.

Send best wishes to k-nor@earthlink.net

  1. after the fall kevin jumped up and said he was ok, but had a hole in his leg and that sept and oct are bad months for him. in 2011 he should hide in the closet those months.

  5. I did not know that downhillers used bar ends. Only XC geeks, and old ones at that use bar ends. Hopefully the rotor was hot and the wound self-cauterised. Oh wait, he doesn’t use brakes does he. Dangit. Kevin, take care of that as the doctors tell ya to, mostly. I do think you can pedal with one leg….

  6. There really wasn’t much pain. I clipped a tree, flipped over the bars and ended up in the brush. I was easily able to see the bone and tried taking a picture with my phone but it was too dark.

The wound was too large to be stitched back together as too much meat was missing; literally we couldn’t find any skin or meat anywhere on the bike.
I spent a few hours being put back together yesterday(Tuesday) and am home unable to walk until Friday. Two more weeks before the bandaging can be taken off.

It’s been a pretty fun adventure really. I have some more great photos on my Facebook page as well that show in semi-decent detail my bone.
