Melanie Norris of Growlers Gulch Racing is off to a great start with training for her big ride in September. Her personal goal is to complete the Smith Creek Loop and Falls Creek in one day for a total of 40+ miles. Her larger goal is to raise money for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
You can check her training diary at the bottom and compare it with your own training regimen this spring.
So far I am down 10 pounds and starting to feel pretty strong again, it’s nice. At this point, my goal is to ride daily either road or mountain, increasing the intensity of each ride. In addition to that, I’m going to continue taking the Zumba classes, yoga classes and incorporate more weight training.
Hopefully, next week I will start doing partial commutes by parking at the 134th park-and-ride and riding back and forth to work from there. That gives me about 30 miles per day with some pretty nice hill climbs in the mix. I had a pretty intense weekend and am a bit sore today, but will be doing a good road ride tonight after work. I have been increasing my water intake, reigning in the beer intake (a little) and paying closer attention to the type of calories I am consuming. I feel like I have been making some good progress and have really been enjoying my training so far. It is starting to become second nature and not so much something I’m “forcing” myself to do.
