Locals Make Noise at Sea Otter Classic
April 24, 2009 on 12:47 pm | In Mountain Biking | 2 CommentsDarrell Jamieson, Chase Jamieson, George Smith and Lloyd Smith returned from the Sea Otter Classic with trophies, great memories, and plenty to be proud of. The event, which took place April 16th through 19th in Monterey, California, drew nearly 10,000 riders and more than 50,000 fans.

Darrell Jaimeson gets it rolling
Darrell rocked the competition in the qualifying round, finishing first in Dual Slalom in Expert 40+. He was edged in the finals by the defending champ and finished second. Darrell finished eighth in DH with a time of 2:32.
Chase showed the crowd that he plans to run with the big dogs one day. As a 10-year-old dropped into the 11-12 year-old DH classification, he ran down two of the top-rated riders near the finish line but could not squeeze by them. He was just three seconds off the winning time, which was posted by a factory GT BMX racer who also happens to be a defending national champion. Chase was equally strong in the Dual Slalom, tying for first in the qualifying round and finishing half-a-second off the winner’s time to take third.
Geo brought home a silver in Expert 50+ Downhill, as he scorched the course in a time of 2:43. And despite riding in a classification loaded with younger riders, he qualified for the finals in Dual Slalom and finished 14th.
Lloyd qualified 26th in Dual Slalom 19-29 Expert but lost in the first round. He finished 34th in DH with a time of 2:34.
Both George and Lloyd are sponsored by Foes.

Actually, I finished 36th. Too many damn fast kids these days. And Darrell beat me again this year by about 2 seconds. One of these days I’ll get him… maybe.
