The South Coldwater work party on the 230A Trail on the north side of Mount St. Helens is a go for Sunday, June 26th. Full details and sign-up here.
Brian Mahon and Ken Noble went up recently to do recon and start the work. Brian reports that heavy snow brought down alder and willow. This has been cleared on the Thar-She-Blows section (Yes, there is a story involved) and that area will need only raking.
Shovel and tread work will be needed from Thar-She-Blows past the equipment toward Tractor Junction and the Thomas Mueller Memorial Over (Yes, there’s a story involved).
Once you get past Botany 101, the snowpack is heavy. Brian predicts that it will be tough to get onto the Plains of Abraham on the Ape Canyon side until mid- or late July.
We need a good turnout at this work party. Not only does this let the Forest Service know we are committed to maintaining this trail, it produces Forest Passes that we can share throughout the summer.
This event is sponsored by Growlers Gulch Racing. It’s not too late to sign-up.
