Mel’s Training Update

Mel Norris reports that training for her 40th birthday ride on Labor Day weekend is going well. The plan is to cover approximately 43 miles at Smith Creek and Falls Creek.

Last weekend, she and Paul completed a century road ride in Oregon.

For those of you who signed up to be part of the ride team in September, you might want to check Mel’s training summary and compare it with your own.

From Mel:

I still have some work to do, but things are going well. I started training 90 days ago. I have been running, swimming, doing yoga, doing Zumba, weight training, road riding and, of course, mountain biking.

As of yesterday, I had done 97 workouts with 22 rest days. My weight is holding steady at about 17 pounds down. I don’t wear my heart rate monitor for all of my workouts, but the summary so far shows 41 sessions at 61 hours and 54 minutes, with 30,159 calories burned. 

My dear sweet husband has agreed to do the STP with me in one day and we are gearing up for that. I had intended to do a sprint triathlon at the end of this month but it was canceled so I’m looking for another big event to help with my training.

Paul and I will probably do a three-peak ride in August. It’s about 30 miles with 6,000+ feet of elevation gain. 

I’m also planning to get to Mount St. Helens in July and August for practice runs at Ape Canyon and Smith Creek.
